With Aidrive Design – increased strength and sensitivity!

The 23' Fuego combines components from the new Airdrive Design with LT elements and the Magsealed stucture.

The new Airdrive rotor leads to a weight reduction in the front unit of the reel and offers optimized balance for a decreased starting resistance. The low starting resistance leads to a better control at fishing, a higher sensitivity and an improved lure control.

The new Airdrive bail is more lightweight than before, ultimately tough and significantly decreases the threat of tanglings in combination with the new bail arm.

The powerful Tough Digigear works silky-smooth and is housed distortion-proof in the reel body made of Zaion V material.

The Magsealed design reliably prevents the intrusion of saltwater and dirt particles over the shaft and leads to a long lifespan.

The Twistbuster III design at the line roller is perfect for the use of braided lines: the braid doesn't get compressed during retrieving and less twist is the result.

The new ATD Type-L drag cares for an even and optimized line release under strain without high starting resistance.

Daiwa Technology

LT-Concept
LT Concept – Light & Tough Redefined: The LT (Light & Tough) concept represents a new standard in compact spinning reel design. Every detail—from the body and spool to the handle—has been meticulously engineered for weight reduction, while maintaining strength and durability where it matters most. By refining the gear system and housing structure with advanced materials and design, LT achieves the perfect balance between lightweight handling and long-term toughness. It’s a concept built for anglers who demand performance without compromise.
AIRDRIVE DESIGN
AIRDRIVE DESIGN – Lightness, Power & Precision Combined: AIRDRIVE DESIGN represents Daiwa’s cutting-edge innovation in spinning reel engineering, built around four core components—AIRDRIVE ROTOR, AIRDRIVE BAIL, AIRDRIVE SPOOL, and AIRDRIVE SHAFT. This integrated system delivers unmatched lightness, responsiveness, and control to elevate the angling experience. The AIRDRIVE ROTOR, made from lightweight ZAION material, is 16% lighter than previous designs, reducing inertia for smoother, more responsive rotation. The AIRDRIVE BAIL, featuring a slimmer, hollow structure, cuts weight by 33%, improving line flow and minimizing tangles. AIRDRIVE SPOOL contributes to overall weight reduction and balance while enhancing oscillation performance. The AIRDRIVE SHAFT, with its non-contact design supported by dual bearings, minimizes friction for quieter rotation and improved torque. Together, these technologies deliver refined lure control, effortless casting, and powerful reeling—setting a new benchmark in spinning reel design.
AIRDRIVE ROTOR
Low inertia is the key.
The newly developed AIRDRIVE ROTOR is made from ZAION. Maintaining the strength of the rotor from 18 EXIST, DAIWA has been able to reduce the weight significantly. Designed with focus to create a perfectly round structure, trouble free and flawless rotation have been achieved.
The rotor unit itself has seen a 16% weight reduction compared to the previous model (Based on 2500 size reel) and will set the standard for what future rotor design of small spinning reels will be.
AIRDRIVE BAIL
Trouble free future.
DAIWA has constructed a bail smaller in diameter whilst providing required strength to achieve a further weight reduction to the front unit. In comparison to 18 EXIST, AIRDRIVE BAIL reduces the weight of the bail by 33% (compared to 2500 size).
DAIWA has adjusted the angle of bail setting to improve the line movement into the roller. Careful attention was given to the roller and slider and individual design alterations were done for each size of 22 EXIST, perfectly adjusting the line management for each size of the reel.
ZAION V
ZAION V – The Evolution of Carbon Technology ZAION V is Daiwa’s next-generation carbon hybrid resin, engineered to push the limits of lightweight strength. Retaining the weightlessness of ZAION, this advanced composite is even stiffer and more resistant to stress than previous DS5 and DS4 materials. The enhanced rigidity of ZAION V allows for stronger, more compact reel bodies and rotors, reducing flex and improving the efficiency of internal mechanics. With superior fatigue resistance and complete immunity to corrosion, even in saltwater conditions, ZAION V sets a new standard for durability and smooth reel performance.
MAGSEALED
The Mag Sealed principle is based on special magnetic oil, which has been developed by the NASA to transport fuel to the space ships based on the magnetic principle. Such oil for reel production is not available in the market. It has to be manufactured under most difficult circumstances. The embedded ferric oxide, which is necessary for the magnetic field, has a diameter of 1/100.000mm.

The molecules in this new "metal oil" are capable of changing. If they are exposed to a magnetic field, they change their shape and the oil forms a fluid seal.
Such a seal, based on the principle of liquid magnetic oil produces nearly no friction, isolates perfectly and prevents even penetration of dust particles.
The big challenge for the DAIWA engineers was the development of a reel, which is designed for the principle of the magnetic oil to generate a kind of liquid membrane that prevents water penetration.
The Mag Sealed design is based on the purpose to keep water away from a spinning reel. First of all for sea anglers this is an amazing idea - since delivers a longer life span; no corrosion and better, pro longed function. If salt water penetrates the reel and dries, it crystallizes, corrodes the gearing and affects the ball bearings. Mag Sealed halts the travel of salt particles.
LC-Concept
LC Brake Concept – Long Cast Power with a Crisp Feel: Designed for anglers who demand distance and control, the LC brake concept delivers exceptional long-range casting performance, especially in the final stretch of the cast. Optimized for medium to heavy lures, it responds dynamically to powerful rod action, translating energy into impressive flight distance. The result is a sporty, satisfying casting feel that elevates every session on the water.
ATD TYPE-L
ATD Type-L Drag – Optimized for Light Lines ATD Type-L enhances the smooth operation of ATD, further reducing inertia for an even softer, more controlled startup—perfect for lighter lines. This minimizes strain, allowing for faster, stress-free fights while protecting delicate tackle. With refined drag response and an improved clicker sound, ATD Type-L delivers precision, consistency, and control, ensuring smooth performance from hook-up to landing.
TOUGH DIGIGEAR
An evolution of Daiwa’s renowned Digigear system, Tough Digigear is designed for maximum strength, smoothness, and efficiency. By refining every detail—including gear diameter, thickness, tooth shape, and size—Daiwa has created a stronger, more durable gearing system that enhances both power transfer and longevity. Machine-cut for ultimate precision, Tough Digigear ensures silky-smooth rotation and increased mechanical efficiency, providing anglers with a reel that performs flawlessly under pressure. With improved materials and larger gear components, it delivers exceptional reliability for long-lasting performance in any fishing environment.
TWIST BUSTER ?
TWIST BUSTER III – Superior Line Management: Line twist has long been considered an unavoidable issue with spinning reels. DAIWA’s solution: a tapered line roller that gently rolls the line during rotor rotation, effectively neutralizing twist before it builds up. With TWIST BUSTER III, we’ve taken it a step further. A newly designed groove in the line roller helps stabilize the line as it passes through—reducing flutter and delivering even smoother line flow. Enjoy cleaner casts, fewer tangles, and optimal line performance.
